From
San Diego ( or the I-5, I-805, or I-15 Freeways) take I-8 east and take
the exit for CA 79. As of November 2002, the signage on I-8 for this
exit was quite poor and the exit was easy to miss so stay alert as you
pass Alpine. Take CA 79 north about 14 miles to the Paso Picacho
Campground and Picnic area on the left (west) side of 79. You can
park without a Forest Adventure Pass in this lot by paying a nominal fee
at the entrance Kiosk. Parking in turnouts along CA 79 requires a
Forest Adventure Pass
. The ride
begins from the parking lot.
